SISTERS WITH A NEED PROGRAM

GOAL: The goal is to increase the positive healthy self-concept, self- sufficiency, and economical struggle in youth,women, and their families.

Objective: Improve the job marketing skills to make youth, elderly,women, and their families more marketable in the work industry.

Activities:

  • Provide computer access of job searching.
  • Assist with preparing a professional resume. Assist with preparing for interviews through role-playing.
  • Provide referrals to Workforce Solutions Agency and etc.
  • Provide interview attire from a Big Sisters Closet.
  • Improve the positive self-awareness in youth,women, and their families.
  • GED ON-line access in computer lab.

Objective: Improve the positive self-awareness in youth, women, and their families through healthy self-concept workshops and conferences.The workshops will be facilitated at the Harvest Food & Outreach Center in Fort Pierce and Vero Beach Florida. Also weekly Classes at the Housing Authority of Fort Pierce.

Activities:

  • Weekly Healthy Self-concept classes.
  • Provide Healthy Self-concept literature and resources for home study.
  • One on One personal mentoring and counseling for youth, elderly, women,and their families recovering from abuse or mental disorders.
  • "Me, Myself & I"  self-awareness workshops for youth and adults. 

Objective: Improve the struggle of making ends meet for youth,eldery, women, and their families who desire to be self-sufficient

Activities:

  • Assist with co-payments for medical and prescriptions for only youth, disable and the elderly.
  • Provide financial assistance through a scholarship program or referral to other agencies for Continuing Education, certification classes or renewal of licenses (Qualifications are required).
  • Provide limited financial assistance or referral to other agencies for utilities, rent/mortgage, short-term hardship or emergencies (qualifications are required).
  • Provide assistance for food, clothing, household goods, moving into a new residence, unexpected tragedy or emergency situations through monetary, agency referrals, in-kind or etc. (qualifications are required).
  • Must meet certain qualification requirements depending on type of assistance required.
  • Must show Picture ID Verification of Social Security card for everyone living in household. Verification that prescription is valid for Prescription program.
  • Proof of income, list of monthly expenses, written plan of how this will not happen again. List of Agencies contacted for assistance in the last 6 months.
  • Proof of receipt of Food Stamps
  • Financial Counseling: Budgeting assistance
  • VITA PROGRAM: Free Tax Preparation Assistance
